Log Arch Build

We have a load of Cedar and the Pine will arrive once the snow melts a bit more.

We have the chainsaw milling table almost setup but it’s currently under a few feet of snow.

We need to work on a Log Arch now.

All steel was purchased and cut to size for this project.

Everything on the main portion of the frame has been tacked together and is awaiting final welding except for 2 supports which run from the rear hoop up to the main spine, there are a couple complicated angles to figure out on these to allow the arch to cradle a Log properly.

Some small items remain to be fabricated and tacked in place still.

  1. Bracket for front end weights
  2. Post for the winch remote control
  3. Winch mounting plate
  4. Hitch assembly
  5. Battery tray  (if being used)
  6. Solar panel mounts (if being used)
  7. Bbb

The battery and solar panels are still up in the air right now and I have to decide if they will be implemented or not. The alternative is to run big cables with a connector at the back of all potential yow vehicles
We will likely use the log arch with a variety of tow vehicles and I think building it with a self sustained power system for the winch would be a smart addition. A couple batteries should be enough to power the unit and they can be mounted right up front to add tongue weight which will offset the Log hanging off the back end. This will also make it so less weight will have to be added on the front via the suitcase weights.

John Deere suitcase weights will be what is used on the front end to help balance this whole unit out. If using the Fergie, it will not necessarily be required but the X 540 would surely need this extra weight added.
